ETNA – Edna Arlene (Shaw) Curit, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior March 21, 2008, with her family by her side at a Bangor health care facility. She was born March 28, 1921, in Etna, the daughter of Leighton and Daisy (Ewer) Shaw. Arlene, as many called her, grew up on Shaw Hill, Etna, back when times were hard and hard work ethics were a part of life. She came from a large family with just one brother remaining, Linwood Shaw. She loved his visits and reminiscing about the old days. She loved the Lord and remained faithful to him to the end. Arlene also loved flowers and gardening, reading her Bible, crocheting, cookouts and yard sales. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was a devoted and loving mother, who was not only dearly loved by her family, but by all who knew her. She will be terribly missed by all. Special thanks to Jennifer for brightening her days at Stillwater Nursing Home, all the staff there, volunteers who gave so lovingly of their time and hospice. Arlene was predeceased by two children, Dale Douglas Manning and Diana Louise Manning. She is survived by six children, Glen Manning and his wife, Vicky, of Etna, Pauline Nelson and her husband, George, of Millinocket, Gail Smith and her husband, Dale, of Etna, Ted Manning and his fianc?e, Anna Santonastasio, of St. Albans, Bruce Manning and his wife, Sandy, of Winterport and Brian Manning and his wife, Sandy, of Bucksport; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service for family and friends at an Etna cemetery in the spring, to be announced at a later date.
