MILBRIDGE – Edward “Grouchy” Costa Botelho, passed away Oct. 19, 2005, at an Augusta hospital after a long bout with diabetes and a stroke. He was born March 19, 1926, in New Bedford, Mass. the son of Manual Costa and Maria Teresa Botelho. He was raised on the water in the fishing industry and joined the Merchant Marines. After his ship was hit and sunk he joined the Navy as a gunner in World War II. Edward left fishing and got a job on land in order to spend time raising his family. He retired from Pratt & Whitney in 1984 and moved to Maine. Edward fell in love with the quality of the people in Milbridge and Washington County, and he felt he found paradise. He is survived by three of his children, Constance Jensen of Connecticut, Edward Botelho of Maine and William Botelho of Florida. He is predeceased by his daughter, Mary-Jo Botelho, and infant son, Howard Botelho. His wish was to be scattered to the sea he loved so much. He will be missed and loved by all.
