BREWER – Edward J. Corbett Jr., 81, husband of the late Barbara A. (Wade) Corbett, died April 18, 2006, at a Bangor healthcare center. He was born May 7, 1924, in Old Town, the son of Edward J. and Viola M. (LaLiberte) Corbett Sr. Edward was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the European – African Theatre after the invasion of France and the Asiatic – Pacific Theatre on the islands of Guam, Sipan, the Philippines and Tinean. He was serving aboard the SS Jose Acosta in Tinean when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Edward was employed by Eastern Corporation for more than 20 years and by Maine Central Railroad for 18 years. He was a communicant of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Brewer and was a member of the Isaac E. Clewley Post No. 4917, VFW, Brewer. He enjoyed many years at his camp at Beech Hill Pond fishing, hunting and snowmobiling with his family and friends. He was never without his camera taking pictures of his family and his beloved cat, Smokey. Surviving in addition to his longtime companion, M. Helen Goodrich of Brewer are four children, Linda Sibley and her husband, Jon, of Fort Myers, Fla., Sharon MacLeod and her husband, Donald, of Brewer, John E. Corbett and his wife, Eleena, of Newburgh and Jackie Harris and her husband, Gary, of Hampden; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine Lister and Joan Taylor of California. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one brother, Frannie Corbett; one sister, Helen Brown; and one grandson, Charles Sibley. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Rudolph J. Leveille, presiding.
