BUCKSPORT – Edward Hastings, 44, beloved husband of Krista Hastings, died Nov. 7, 2006, surrounded by family at their home. He was born July 17, 1962, in Suffern, N.Y., the son of Betty Hastings and the late Fritz Hastings of New City, N.Y. While completing his degree at the State University of New York at Delhi, Edward began his career at LMS in Nyack, N.Y., doing fisheries work on the Hudson River. Later, he worked for more than 10 years as an environmental scientist for Woodward-Clyde Consultants, Wayne, N.J., where he met his future wife, Krista. Shortly after moving to Maine in 2000, Edward returned to the fisheries work he loved as a contractor for NOAA Fisheries, Orono, where he grew to love the Penobscot River in the same way he loved the Hudson. Ed’s work with the salmon on the Penobscot led him to become involved with the Friends of Green Lake National Fish Hatchery, as their treasurer. In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by his mother, Betty Hastings; brother, Bill and sister-in-law, Donna; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Marty Price; and brother, Fred, all of New City, N.Y. Uncle Eddie’s zany antics will be especially missed by his nieces and nephews, Tammy and Michael Fenner, Treavor Hastings, Joey Price, Brittany Hastings, Nicklaus Hastings and Christine Hastings. Ed will also be missed by his godparents, Aunt Ethel and Uncle Sam Osborne; and the rest of his aunts, uncles and many cousins. Ed was the favorite son-in-law and friend of Cathy and Gerry Hamburger of Bucksport and John and Brenda Fegelein of Delaware; and favorite brother-in-law of Jeff and Sue Fegelein of Idaho. Ed will be missed by countless friends and co-workers. He had the gift of creating community and proved frequently that it was possible to have fun even while you are working hard. Anyone who knew Ed will smile when they remember him. A celebration of Ed’s life will be held noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Eddington Salmon Club. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Edward’s memory may be made to the Friends of Green Lake National Fish Hatchery, care of Dennis Higgins, 3297 Mariaville Road, Mariaville, ME 04605 or to your local hospice.
