RALEIGH, N.C. – Edwin William Forsythe died May 25, 2007, at his son’s home in Raleigh, N.C., after a short battle with cancer. His wife of 45 years, Kathleen May Forsythe, was at his side caring for him. Ed was born July 28, 1927, in Waterville. While an infant, his father passed away. He grew up with his mother and grandparents in Ashland. His mother remarried when he was 11, and the family moved to Addison. Ed graduated from Addison High School, in 1944. He served in World War II in the Philippines, before returning to earn his bachelor’s degree in forestry from the University of Maine at Orono, in 1951. He worked as a surveyor and cartographer for the James W. Sewall Co. While surveying in remote regions of Alaska, he indulged the great love of the outdoors that was fostered in his youth. He met his wife, Kathleen, a nurse, at a dance in Boston. After a long-distance courtship, they were married July 29, 1961, and she joined him in Veazie, where they raised two sons. Ed is survived by his wife, Kathleen May; his son, Eric and wife, Michele; two granddaughters, Erin and Naomi; a grandchild due this winter in Silver Spring, Md.; his son, Tom and wife, Elizabeth; grandson, McCoy of Raleigh, N.C.; his sister, Lois Farnsworth and husband, Charlie; and his sister, Norma Gray. Norma’s husband, Ralph, predeceased Ed by several weeks. A viewing was held May 31, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Raleigh, N.C. A service was held June 1, at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church.
