CLINTON and HOULTON Edwin Gerald Suitter, 79, died July 13, 2008, surrounded by his family, at his home. He was born June 4, 1929, in Houlton, the eldest of 18 children to Bert and Hazel (Ellis) Suitter. Ed was a truck driver for Houlton Truck Express and Coles Express for many years, was a member of Teamsters, winning 1982 Driver of the Year and many honors, including Safe, Accident-Free Driving Award, Million Mile Club and Liberty Mutual Life Saving Award. He was a member of Clinton Methodist Church, Oddfellows Lodge, in both Houlton and Clinton, and the Clinton Grange. Ed is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Chambers Suitter of Clinton; six children, Linda Thorne of Clinton, who took wonderful care of Ed during his illness, Donna McGillicuddy and her husband, Charles, Emily Reece and her husband, Robert, and Keith Suitter, all of Houlton, Edwin Gerald “Jerry” Suitter II and his wife, Elizabeth, of North Carolina and Timothy Suitter of Houlton; nine grandchildren, Karri, Marci, Corey, Alison, Jonathan, Kristen, Michelle, Tamecka and Paul; eight great-grandchildren, Drew Ann, Brandon, Garrett, Ella, Molly, Alyssa, David and Shaylee; nine brothers, Robert, Ronald, Bert, Marvin, Glenn, Raymond, Darrell, Ervin and Larry; four sisters, Joann, Jeanette, Connie and Norma; several nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Kenneth; and three sisters, Donna, Maxine and Althea. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Dunn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Arthur Myers officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
