ELAINE C. WEST ENFIELD – Elaine C. West, 61, wife of Walter West, died Oct. 2, 2003, at a Lincoln healthcare facility. She was born in Carroll, Sept. 5, 1942, the daughter of Clayton and Olive (Young) McLaughlin. Elaine was known to the children in the neighborhood as the “gum lady” because she was always passing out gum. She loved children, did a lot of babysitting, and was so looking forward to the birth of her only grandchild. Every month, she did volunteer work at Beano at Colonial Acres Nursing Home. In addition to her husband, Walter, she is survived by a son, Joseph Solomon and his wife, Jennifer, and their unborn child, of Passadumkeag; a brother, Myron McLaughlin of Brewer; three sisters, Shelda Milner of Lincoln Center, Linda Batchelder of Enfield and Marilyn Theriault of New Hampshire; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Craig officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
