OAKFIELD – Elbridge H. Bragan, 82, passed away March 22, 2005, at a local hospital. He was born June 18, 1922, in Hammond Plantation, the son of Horace and Gertrude (Smith) Bragan and stepmother, Leota Bragan. After Elbridge graduated high school he moved down to Portland to work. He later moved back home, married, and bought a farm in Smyrna. Elbridge worked for the State Highway department, drove a school bus for 16 years, ran the Pizza Shack in Oakfield, Bragan’s Market in Houlton, and E & L Dairy Bar. He loved his dogs and all animals, except squirrels. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lydia (Brownlow) Bragan; three daughters, Diane Clark and her husband, Dennis, Trudy Tarr and her husband, Joey, and Vickey Tilley; one son, Brian Bragan and his wife, Nancy; seven grandchildren, Denise Hitchcock and her husband, Brett, Deanna Edkins, and her husband, Bruce, Darrin Clark and his wife, Rita, Jolynn Sherman and her husband, Pat, Jason Tarr and his wife, Alyssa, Brian Bragan Jr., and his wife, Molly, Tim Bragan and his wife, Theresa; great- grandchildren, Brett Jr., and Josh Hitchcock, Erin (Edkins) Thompson, and Corey Edkins, Amanda Clark, Colby Clark, Nicole, Alyssa, and Kimberly Sherman, Chelsea and Seth Goslin, Lauren Bragan, Courtney and Mitchell Bragan, Josh and Jordan Bragan; great- great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Thompson; sister, Thelma Long; several nieces, nephews; his very special dog, Bailey; many special friends and relatives. He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Bragan, and son-in-law, Percy Tilley Jr. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Bowers Funeral Home, Sherman Street, Island Falls. A spring graveside committal service will be announced in the spring.
