GORHAM – Eleanor D. Kennedy, wife of 56 years to the late Robert J. Kennedy, died June 19, 2008, in Gorham, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 15, 1929, in Machias, daughter of the late William T. Dodge and Mary Anges O’Donnell Dodge, and was the youngest of six children. She graduated from Machias High School, Class of 1945, as valedictorian at the age of 16. She attended college at Washington State Academy and worked at Hartford Institute for Psychiatry, Connecticut, Wash-ington County Extension Service and Boston area firms. She was a member of Mayflower Society, Maine State Historical Society, Scarborough Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Maximilian Kolbe Church and TI Computer Club of Portland. Her hobbies included art, painting, genealogy and computers. She is survived by her six children and their families, Terry and Kendra Kennedy of Lansing, Mich., William Kennedy of Scarborough, Michael and Donna Kennedy of Gorham, Linda and William Vickerson of Scarborough, Janet and Mark Savoie of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kenneth and Kelly Kennedy of Scarborough. She has 18 grandchildren, Christopher, Jeremy and Kaitlin Kennedy of Lansing, Mich., Karie and Shawn Kennedy of Scarborough, David, Sarah Kennedy Leeman and her husband, Christopher, Luke, Timothy, Paul and his wife, Brianna and Ruth Kennedy of Gorham, Amanda and Meg Vickerson of Scarborough, Leana, Helena, Samuel and Mariah Savoie of Anchorage, Alaska, and Pauline Eleanor Kennedy of Scarborough; as well as her two great-grandchildren, Ava and Emma Kennedy; numerous nieces and nephews. She also is survived by her brother, Philip R. Dodge and wife, Dolores, of Northfield; and close family friend, Steven Mellenthien of Anchorage, Alaska. She was predeceased by brothers, Leonard F. and wife, Marion B. Dodge and William E. “Eugene” and wife, Elsie S. Dodge; sisters, Gladys E. Dodge and Mary A. Clark and spouses, Phil Smith and Maynard Clark; and daughter-in-law, Alice Kennedy. Visiting hours will be 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 23, at Blais and Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Scarborough. Burial will be after at New Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
