HORTENSE, Ga., and DEXTER – Eleanor “Ellie” M. Whalen, 68, entered into rest Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Born in Dexter, she resided in Hortense, Ga., for 37 years. She was a retired licensed practical nurse, integral involved member of her community and extremely independent. She was very loving and caring for her family and friends. She loved to cook, share her cooking secrets, loved animals, music, crafts, vacationing in Maine and spending time with Helio. Survivors include daughter and husband, Debora Miller and Leon Walker of Prospect; son, Robert Whalen Jr. and wife, Laura Young, of Levant; daughters, Rogena Derboven of Reidsville, Ga., Rhonda Edgecomb and husband, Ralph, of Mariaville, Roxanne Sullivan of Hortense, Ga., Jackie Hanselman of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 22 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews in Maine. She was predeceased by her parents, several sisters and brothers. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the Atkinson Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev.
