HAMPDEN – Eleanor F. (MacVane) Williamson, 67, wife of Alton Williamson, passed away peacefully, May 30, 2005, surrounded by her family at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor. She was born June 12, 1937, the daughter of Harold I. and Louise AJ (Peterson) MacVane. Eleanor grew up in Portland and was a graduate of Deering High School and Westbrook College. She had worked for the Bangor School Department as secretary to the Guidance Counselor at Garland Street Junior High School (William S. Cohen School) for ten years and for Superior Paper Company. Eleanor was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Bangor and enjoyed traveling throughout her life. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose focus in life was always on her family. Eleanor is survived by her husband of 47 years, Alton of Hampden; one son, Glen Williamson and his wife, Doreen, of Newburgh; three daughters, Ann Downs and her husband, Daniel, of Warminster, Penn., Susan Leach and her husband, Scott, of Bangor, and Lisa Ashford and her husband, Jay, of Hampden; six grandchildren, Matthew and Beth Downs, Jennifer and Nicholas Leach and Rebecca Allen and Neil Ashford; one niece and several nephews. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, with the Rev. Dr. Randall Chretien, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Bangor, officiating. Interment will be private in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
