HOLLY HILL, Fla. and DEER ISLE – Eleanor (Hardy) McGuire Graham died March 11, 2006, at the Island Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was born Sept. 1, 1913, in Deer Isle, the daughter of Susie (Eaton) and George Campbell Hardy. She graduated from Stonington High School and Castine Normal School then taught classes in the Stonington school system. Years later Eleanor attended the University of Maine where she earned her real estate license and subsequently operated a successful real estate business. Eleanor was instrumental in the formation of the Island Women’s Club, which sponsored summer dance classes for local children through the Thomas School of Dance; the Stonington Public Library; the Island Medical Center and was a fundraiser for the Island Nursing Home. Her leisure time was spent gardening, sketching and painting, golfing and playing bridge. In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Gray Hardy and Muriel Campbell Hardy; first husband, Robert J. McGuire; second husband, John W. Graham; and a son, Frank McGuire. Eleanor leaves behind a large family including two sons, Thomas J. and wife, Peg, of Sunset, Robert J. of Dedham; four daughters, Margaret A. Brush and husband, Ken, of Orland, Janice Turner of Sunset, Paula D. Senecal and husband, Robert, of Northboro, Mass.; Susan F. Dalla and husband, Charles, of Lakewood, Colo.; two step-daughters, Jean (Graham) Cravin and Sister Ann Graham, both of New York; a daughter-in-law, Margaret McGuire of Vermont; 23 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
