WARREN – Eleanore Frances Davis Perkins of Warren died Wednesday morning, June 22, 2005, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport after a long battle with cancer. Born July 26, 1920, in Detroit, the daughter of Edwena Hart and Merton Lorenzo Davis. Eleanore lived in Warren for almost 53 years. Eleanore graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Westbrook Junior College in Westbrook, and the University of Maine in Orono. Eleanore taught in Warren for over thirty years; she began her teaching career teaching speech and French at Warren High School. She taught special reading classes in the lower grades, adult education reading classes, and ended her career by teaching second grade for over twenty years. During her years in Warren, she participated in various church groups, lodges, choruses, the Friends of Warren Free Public Library and the Warren Historical Society. Eleanore belonged to the Second Congregational Church in Warren for over 60 years. For the last 10 years, she attended South Hope Community Church with her family. Eleanore was predeceased by her husband of almost 53 years, Fred L. Perkins Jr.; and her brother, Norman Davis, of Detroit. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn, and her husband, Howard Wiley, of Warren; four grandchildren, Carolyn Anne Reed and her husband, Jeff, of Warren, Katherine Wiley of Searsport, James Wiley and his wife, Karen, of Warren, David Wiley and his wife, Hannah, of Warren; and two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Isabelle Wiley of Warren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Warren Free Public Library for children’s books or Warren Historical Society. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday evening at Burpee, Carpenter, & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m., Monday, June 27, at South Hope Community Church with the Rev. Norman Finnemore presiding. The committal service will be held at Gordon Cemetery in Searsport, after the services at the church.
