NEWPORT – Betty V. Dean, 76, died Sept. 30, 2006, after a brief hospital stay. She was born Dec. 6, 1929, in Pittsfield, daughter of the late Phillip and Effie (Walker) Vroom. She graduated from Maine Central Institute, Class of 1948, and the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. Betty was a longtime registered nurse at Sebasticook Valley Hospital, Pittsfield, retiring in 1992. She greatly enjoyed her family and many friends. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Fred Dean of Newport; three children, George and wife, Jeanette Dean, of Plymouth, Mary Dean and Mike Phillips of Hartland and Ruth and husband, Mike Clement, of St. Albans; grandchildren, Jessica and Mike Robichaud, Chris and Nichole Dean, Matthew Dean, Jackie Morin and Danniele and Halley Phillips; and two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Tyler. In addition to her parents, Betty was also predeceased by her brother and his wife, Charles and Ethel Vroom. At her request, there will be no visitation. Graveside committal services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
