HOULTON – Elizabeth W. Gerry, 102, died June 20, 2006, at a local heathcare facility. She was born March 9, 1904, at Littleton, the daughter of F.I. Wilmot and Mary (Appleby) Watson. Elizabeth was a graduate of Ricker Classical Institute, studied pre-med for two years at Colby College, was a graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing and went on to graduate from Simmons College with public nursing certification. She worked as an operating room supervisor at Eastern Maine General Hospital, Bangor, for seven years, as a private duty nurse for 23 years, and for the Bangor District Nursing Association, where she was the director of nursing until her retirement in 1969. After retirement, she spent her winters in Florida. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC, Brewer, Homemakers Club, Kings Daughters, the Chi Omega Sorority, the Chi Omega Alumni Association, the MPM Club, and was very involved in the Abnaki Girl Scouts Council and the Whiskey Creek Country Club in Fort Myers, Fla. Elizabeth is survived by two daughters, Anne G. Gassett and her husband, Richard, Jean G. Collett and her husband, Bruce; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wyman P. Gerry; her parents; two sisters, Mary Flanders and Jean Watson; one brother, James Watson. Elizabeth’s family wishes to express their thanks to Madigan House and Madigan Estates Nursing Home for their loving care. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
