FRANKLIN and OTTER CREEK – Elsie Albee Walls, 93, of Otter Creek, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at Golden Acres Boarding Home, Franklin. She was born May 12, 1914, at home in Otter Creek, the daughter of Samuel M. and Emma (Albee) Walls. She was one of nine children. Elsie started working at the age of 12 housekeeping, then after graduation from Gilman High in 1932, she worked at Miller Gardens. When World War II started she went to work in New York for a year, refurbishing guns for the war effort. After her return home, she worked for the gardens for 30 years. She cared for many people, always there for you if you needed her. She worked with her brothers doing a large garden, and canned a couple hundred quarts of vegetables and fruits each year until she was 88. Elsie was a prolific photographer. She was a member of the Congregational Church all her life. She is survived by a sister, Anita May Merchant of Charleston and East Corinth. Elsie has many nieces and nephews, and will be greatly missed by them all. She was predeceased by her sisters, Gladys Walls, Melinda Evelyn Orlasky and Otilda Frances Conners Dodge; and brothers, Samuel L., Charles Norman and Everett Nelson Walls. The family wishes to express special thanks to Golden Acres and Hancock County Hospice. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor.
