SEARSPORT and LIBERTY Elsie M. (Carroll) Sauve, 87, died Feb. 24, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 1, 1916, in Cranston, R.I., the daughter of Charles and Sarah (Duclau) Carroll Sr. Elsie was raised in Rhode Island, and moved to Springfield, Mass., where she met her husband, Herbert J. Sauve Sr. In 1941, they moved to Waltham, where Elsie was active in the Girl Scouts and Brownies of America, Cedar Hill Council, and the Waltham School Council. They began vacationing in Maine in 1954 and in 1971 moved permanently to Liberty where they both were active in the Liberty Grange and Elsie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In 1993, Elsie relocated to Searsport where she became a member of the First Congregational Church of Searsport, the Women’s Fellowship Group, the Round-A-Bouts, and the Searsport Lioness Club. “Gaggie”, as she was known, also became an important person at the Lollipop Daycare. An avid and talented crafter, she knit mittens and hats, made wreaths, and many family members have her quilts and afghans to cherish. Gaggie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed, but fondly remembered. Elsie is survived by three daughters, Cocoa Pacholski and husband, Norman Sr., of Searsport, Melody Joliat and husband, Phil, of Springfield, Va., and Bonnie Hakkila; son, Herbert Sauve Jr. and wife, Joan, of Westford, Mass.; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer, Norman Jr., Gregory, Major Herbert (U.S. Army), Sarah, Edward, Dolyne, Scot, Erik, Jessica, Julie, Kathy, and Raymond Jr.; several great-grandchildren including, Brook, Forrest, Skylor, Oceana, Maxwell, Isaiah, Kristian, Lauren, Lindsey, Samantha, Philip, Kristin, Michael, and Levi. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Herbert J. Sauve Sr. in 1980; a son, Raymond Carroll Sr.; brother, Charles Carroll Jr.; and sister, Vera Rock. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at the Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport. A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, at the First Congregational Church of Searsport, with Rev. Arlin Larson officiating. Spring interment will be in the family cemetery, Liberty.
