DEER ISLE – Emery Arthur Gray, 76, died unexpectedly April 3, 2007, at his home. He was born June 21, 1930, in Stonington, the son of the late Ralph E. and Mary L. (Gray) Gray. Mr. Gray was a graduate of Stonington High School, Class of 1948. After his education, he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and served for several years, being honorably discharged with the rank of corporal. He was a fisherman for most of his life off the waters of Deer Isle/ Stonington. Emery also worked at the granite quarry on Crotch Island for many years in the off-season of fishing. He also traveled to Connecticut and worked for Pratt and Whitney. He also traveled to Florida for many winters, where he was a crewmember of private yachts. He enjoyed his music and enjoyed playing the guitar and accordion; playing many good tunes with George Aldrich and Scotty Webber. He was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed his church family. Family members include a sister, Barbara J. Hardy of North Deer Isle; and a nephew, Douglas Hardy Jr. and his wife, Lorie, of Deer Isle; great-nephews, Benjamin and Jamie Hardy, both of Deer Isle, Mac Hardy of Sedgwick, Jacob Hardy of Deer Isle, and Daryl Dunham of Deer Isle; a great-niece, Sarah Dunham of Deer Isle; many cousins, including Hubert Billings and wife, Carol, Cornelia Cullinane, Roger Davis and wife, Marilyn, Priscilla Davis and husband, Harry, Neville Hardy and wife, Darlene, Ralph “Petey” Hardy and wife, Tina, Melvin Hardy and wife, Mary, all of Deer Isle, Mary (Tack) Hutchinson, Edward Davis and wife, Beverly, of Stonington, and Carolyn Stevens of Brooksville. He was predeceased by a nephew, Danny of Deer Isle, in 2001; a cousin, Leroy “Doc” Hardy; and his beloved dog, Buffy. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Reach Road, North Deer Isle, with the Rev. John Hawkins officiating. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. A time of fellowship will be held immediately after the burial service at Nazarene Church, Stonington.
