June 19, 1970 – Oct. 4, 1997 My mom’s fiance, Sonny, was not only my hero, but also my friend. He did not have to be superman, the ninth wonder of the world or fight crime. He would just give me courage, confidence, kindness and understanding. He was himself. I was really young when Sonny was here. My mom reminds me with pictures and words, and when I think of him I think he is my hero. He’d do lots of things that made me smile. And he was calm and understanding with people. This is one of the types of people that you look up to and say, “That is what I want to be like when I grow up.” One time he woke up early on my first day of school, and I was waiting for the bus and my mother was watching TV. Sonny got up early and Mom said, “There’s no work this morning.” But he got his jacket on and his hat and went outside to wait for the bus with me. That was special. Sonny died. Even though he died, he showed me I can do anything I wanted to and gave me confidence. Sonny wasn’t only my friend, he is my hero. Though missing from our lives for 10 years, our memories of you are still quite clear. We’ll meet you in the stars, my friend. Love, Aimee and Joel
