BLUE HILL – Emma Lavinia Gray, 53, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully Oct. 2, 2007. She was born Dec. 24, 1953, in Castine, the daughter of Norman William and Annie Louise (Dunbar) Gray. Emma attended Brewer High School and graduated from H.O.M.E. Learning Center in 1978. She had a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Maine in Orono. She worked many years at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and was, at the time of her death, working at the Leighton Gallery, Blue Hill. She was a passionate, prolific artist and very active in the Union of Maine Visual Artists and Deer Isle Art Association. She loved plants, animals and the outdoors, and transformed these elements into her creations. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by two daughters, Lisa L. Gray of Blue Hill and Sarah C. Gray of Santa Cruz, Calif.; her siblings, Robert W. Gray and wife, Sharon, of Verona Island and Charles N. Gray and dear friend of the family Brenda Hincks of Ded-ham; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many special friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Gray Shirland in 2004; a brother, Samuel D. Gray in 2006; and a nephew, Eric M. Brawn in 1982. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Oct. 8, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. A gathering will be after the service at Tamworth Farm, Blue Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in Emmy’s memory many be made to The Ark Animal Shelter, 60 Barber Lane, Cherryfield, ME 04622.
