MACHIAS – Erma (Hall) Crocker Buzzell, 105, died Aug. 18, 2006, at Marshall Health Care Center, Machias. She was born Oct. 19, 1900, in Machias, the eldest daughter of the late Willis M. and A. Gertrude (Smith) Hall. Mrs. Buzzell graduated from Machias High School in 1919 and from Washington State Normal School in 1921. She taught elementary school for several years in Machias, Milbridge, Steuben and Roque Bluffs. She was a member of the Kennebec Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and was an active member of the Hannah Weston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for more than 40 years. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Louis M. Crocker and Vernon N. Buzzell; a son, Richard G. Crocker; two brothers, Willis and Philip Hall; and three sisters, Faye (Hall) Guptill, Inza (Hall) Gile and Virginia (Hall) Calberg. Mrs. Buzzell is survived by a granddaughter, Jan Crocker Bierer and her husband, John, of Brunswick; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Crocker of Machias; two sisters, Lilith Bangs of South Berwick and Gertrude Deuchars of Pasadena, Calif. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at the West Kennebec Cemetery.
