BELFAST – Erma M. Armstrong, 90, of Belfast, wife of the late Cecil N. Armstrong Sr., went to be with the Lord on Aug. 11, 2004, at a local nursing home, with her family at her side. She was born Dec. 2, 1913, at Vinalhaven, the daughter of Dallas Clevland and Josephine Mildred (Ames) Murch. She was an active member of the Granite Grange of Searsport. She was a Grange member for 58 years. Erma was also a member of the Little River Baptist Church in Belfast, which she enjoyed attending. She was employed at Reny’s Department Store in Belfast for 13 years, and retired on Dec. 23, 2003. She was a friend to many including her co-workers and customers. She graciously touched the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchildren. Erma will always be remembered by her family as a very caring and determined lady. She was always ready to listen, laugh, to forgive and to make everything work out right with her presence. She made life and its surroundings a better place to be. She was an inspiration to everyone and will be greatly missed by her family, her friends and her cat, Mandy. Erma is survived by five sons, Cecil N. Armstrong Jr. and his wife, Dianna, of Belfast, Leon D. Armstrong and his wife, Shirley, of Knox, Donald S. Armstrong and his wife, Gloria, of Belfast, Brett Armstrong and his wife, Mary, of Swanville; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also survive her. Erma was predeceased by her husband, Cecil; and three daughters, Josephine, Velma, Leona; and granddaughters; and two grandsons. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at the Little River Baptist Church, with the Rev. Scott Backer officiating. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Rackliffe Funeral Home, 54 Church St., Belfast.
