BANGOR – Ernie C. Griswold, 63, husband of Cheryl A. (Sibley) Griswold, died unexpectedly June 8, 2008, at a Boston hospital. He was born April 9, 1945, in Bristol, Conn., son of Ernest L. and Christine A. (Gilman) Griswold. Ernie graduated from technical school in Connecticut and served in the U.S. Army as a drill sergeant during the Vietnam era. He was employed as a loan officer in banking in Connecticut before coming to Maine in 1998. He continued banking in Maine, retiring in 2000. He operated a child care service with his wife, Cheryl, and they were members of Beacon of Hope Church of God, Bangor, for the last five years. Surviving, in addition to his wife of Bangor, are a stepdaughter, Lynn Martin; three grandchildren, Emma, Madisen and Cole Hewett, all of Bangor; his mother, Christine Griswold; two sisters, Betty Marsh and Jane Jones and her husband, Fred; a brother, Mark and his wife, Patty, all of Connecticut; a sister, Brenda Bouchard of Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father; a brother, Dan; and a daughter, Yvonne Griswold. A funeral service in celebration of Ernie’s life will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Beacon of Hope Church of God, 1612 Ohio St., Bangor, where family and friends may visit noon until the service begins. The Rev. David R. Bean, church pastor, will preside and burial with military honors will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. After the burial and committal service, those attending are invited to the church fellowship hall on the lower level for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments.
