BANGOR – Estelle B. Shepard, 97, died April 14, 2008, at a Bangor health care center. She was born Feb. 10, 1911, in Montreal, the daughter of John P. and Catherine (Kelly) Boyle. Estelle lived in Montreal until she married Ernest G. Hempey in 1942 and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where their two children were born. Upon the death of her husband in 1949, Estelle moved with her children to St. Albans, Vt. She worked for the U.S. Immigration Service for 25 years. She was married to D. Leonard Shepard of St. Albans from 1970 until his death in 1997. In 2003 she moved to Bangor. She is survived by two children, Richard Hempey and his wife, Rosemary, of Portland, Ore., and Barbara Wardwell of Bangor; four grandchildren, Duncan Wardwell and his wife, Amy, of Richmond, Vt., Ethan Wardwell and his wife, Jennifer, of Hampden, Matthew Hempey and his wife, Lauren of California and Scott Hempey and his wife, Jennifer, of Bolton, Vt.; three great-grandchildren, Quinn and Alex Wardwell of Richmond, Vt., and Meara Hempey of California; one sister, Claire Trambley of St. Albans, Vt.; numerous nieces and nephews throughout the U.S. and Canada. She was predeceased by two sisters, Ailleen Ladue and Mildred McLellan; and one brother, John Boyle. A memorial service will be held at a later date in St. Albans, Vt., and burial will be at Notre Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery, Montreal.
