OAKLAND – Esther B. Day Morris, 79, of Oakland, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday Nov. 4, 2003. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease five years ago. Esther was born on July 18, 1924, in North Jay, the daughter of Harold and Evelyn (Roberts) Burke. After being a faithful wife and mother, she went to work for Dr. Dorothy Eisengart. She retired in 1989 after working in the office for 13 years. Esther loved her bible and loved the Lord. She attended church at Riverside Assembly in Fairfield. She will be remembered by her family and her friends for her grand meals and wonderful deserts. She is survived by her second husband, Herbert Morris of Oakland; four children, Lois and her husband, Arland Bailey, of China, Marie and her husband, Everett McLean, of Oakland, Larry and his wife, Kathy Day, of Fairfield, Susan and her husband, John Bishop, of Charlton, N.Y.; three sisters, Elizabeth Toole, Shirley Chase of Miami, Fla. and Phyllis Broad of East Corinth; eight grandchildren, who called her “MeMe”, Allen and his wife, Charity McLean, Elizabeth McLean of Oakland, Melissa and her husband, Ryan Warren, of Wrenham, Mass., Emily and Michael Day, of Fairfield, Jonathan, Bryan and Lauren Bishop, of Charlton, N.Y.; one great-grandson, Dominick McLean. Esther had some special friends, Zilah Veinotte Millet and her daughter, Ginny Lewis, Donna Bartlett and Murial McIntosh; very special caregivers were Becky Emery and Sylvia Cyr. She spent many days of the past five years at the Muskie Center Adult Daybreak Program with Allison Campbell and her many wonderful volunteers. She was predeceased by her first husband, Stanley Day. They were married on July 30, 1943 and enjoyed 33 wonderful years together. He died on July 21, 1976. Visiting hours will be held on 6-8 p.m. Thursday Nov. 6, 2003, at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Riverside Assembly on Water Street in Fairfield. Burial will follow at Oak Cemetery in Norridgewock.
