BREWER and SACO – Esther G. Allen, 97, died March 15, 2006, at a Saco healthcare center. She was born Sept. 16, 1908, in Brewer, the daughter of Arthur and Eleanor (McHugh) LaCrosse. Esther attended Brewer schools and was a lifelong resident of Brewer. She resided at the Dirigo School Apartments for 28 years and had lived in what was once her first grade classroom. Esther had recently moved to Saco, where she lived for the last year and a half. She attended St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Brewer and was an active member of the Brewer Senior Citizens. Esther enjoyed knitting, sewing, and playing cards. Surviving are five children, James T. Savoy and his wife, Hazel, of Brewer, Edward J. Savoy and his wife, Christine, of Saco, Elwood P. and John W. Savoy, both of Biddeford and Eleanor S. Hyman of Columbia, S.C.; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Louise Thomas of Brewer. She was predeceased by her first husband, James T. Savoy; her second husband, George Allen; two children, Arthur M. Savoy and Greta M. Arey; and three sisters, Eleanor LaCrosse, Greta Robinson and Eileen Springer. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer, with the Rev. Joel R. Cyr, pastor of St. Teresa’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, presiding. Family and friends may visit 11 a.m. Saturday until the service begins. Burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor will be at a later date.
