BREWER – Ethelle Louise Gibbs, 89, wife of the late Harvey S. Gibbs, died March 11, 2008, at a Bangor health care center. She was born April 6, 1918, in Levant, the daughter of Harry G. and Mary E. (Haynes) Lufkin. Ethelle was a graduate of Providence Bible Institute, Class of 1952, and a 1954 graduate of Barrington College, Providence, R.I., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in missionary studies. She was employed in life ministry at Unevangelized Field Mission, now Cross World, Bala Cynwyd, Pa. Ethelle also was very involved as a volunteer crafter for the hospital chaplaincy in Newburgh, and visiting nursing homes, offering prayer and hope. She was a 22-year member of Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer. Surviving are nephews and nieces, Linwood Lufkin and his wife, Mabel, of Eddington, Benjamin Lufkin and his wife, Carolyn, of Brooks, Mary Griffin and her husband, Paul, of Levant, Charles Lufkin and his wife, Patricia, of Massachusetts, Rae Rudisill and her husband, Rudy, of Pennsylvania, James Lufkin of Maine and John Lufkin of Ohio; many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. In addition to her husband, Harvey, who died in 1995; she was predeceased by four brothers, Lowell, Harland, Wilson and Roland; and two nieces, Beverly and Lois. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 3-5 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer, with the Rev. Roger Davis, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will be at South Levant Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service Friday in the fellowship hall of the church.
