MERIDEN, Conn. – Etta C. Chambers, 88, of 380 Crown St., wife of 72 years to Romie Chambers, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, with her family at her side after a brief illness, at the St. Elizabeth Center of the Curtis Home. Born Feb. 11, 1918, in Oakfield, she was the daughter of the late Bernal and Ida (Pinkerton) Clark. She had resided in Meriden, Conn., since 1952 and attended schools in Oakfield. Mrs. Chambers was employed by Pratt & Whitney, East Hartford, Conn., for 30 years. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Meriden. She enjoyed life, sewing, gardening and most of all, her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Romie, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bernie and Lenora Chambers of Washington, N.H.; a brother-in-law, Robert Griffin of South Meriden; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her lifetime friends, Donald and Edna Smith of Meriden. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carole Griffin; two sisters, three stepbrothers and two stepsisters. The funeral will be held 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, Conn. and 11 a.m. in Walter Hubbard Chapel, Walnut Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Lucy Ijams officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
