BREWER – Eugene D. Sabine, 82, went to be with the Lord Jan. 7, 2005, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Bangor, the son of the late William and Josephine (Bass) Sabine. Eugene attended Bangor Schools graduating from Bangor High School in 1941. He served his country in the US Army during World War II in the European Theatre receiving metals for his honorable service. He retired at age 70 from Answen Shoe as foreman after 45 years of service in area factories. Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 56 years, Charlotte (Tardiff) Sabine of Brewer; are two children, Douglas Sabine and his wife, Kathleen, of Orrington and Terri Grass of Brewer; three granddaughters, Tracy (Grass) Pinkham of Brewer, Jaime (Grass) Solomon of Bucksport and Michelle Sabine of Orrington; two great-grandchildren, Tessa and Caleb Solomon of Bucksport; one sister, Dorothy Hapworth of Bangor; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, three sisters and a very special son-in-law, Roger Grass of Brewer. Friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer where a memorial service will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday following the visitation. The Rev. Adam Soderberg, pastor of the East Orrington Congregational Church will officiate and burial with military honors will be held in the spring at Marston Cemetery, Orrington.
