KENNEBUNK – Eugene G. Frederick, 70, of Merrifield Drive, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at a Portland hospital of leukemia with his family at his side. He was born Dec. 15, 1933, in Portland, a son of Leon H. and Maude Feeney Frederick. Eugene graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1951. He then Attended and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1956, where he received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering and belonged to the TKE fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army and married Rhoda Wood on Sept. 15, 1956. They lived in Beverly, Mass., for 15 years, where he was employed by United Shoe Machinery as a designed engineer. He was a member of the Dane Street Church where he served as deacon and a member of the Couples Club. Mr. Frederick was active with the Boy Scout Troop No. 2, in Beverly, Mass., and serve as an Explorer scout leader. Upon returning to Maine, Eugene worked for Corning Components in Kennebunk and Biddeford, Data General in Portsmouth, N.H. and Vishay-Sprague in Sanford from where he retired. He enjoyed reading and hiking, especially Baxter State Park, and was a member of the Maine Appalachian Trail Club and maintained a section of the trail at the entrance to the Bigelow Range. Eugene was a volunteer at the Laudholm Trust Wells Reserve, and a member of Christ Church in Kennebunk. He also was a former member of the Yankeeland Chorus and recently enjoyed wintering in Zephyrhills, Fla. He is predeceased by a brother, Leon Frederick Jr.; two sisters, Dorothy Frederick and Shirley Coyle; and his stepmother, Doris Frederick. Surviving are his wife of Kennebunk, a son, William and his wife, Linda, of Sanford; two daughters, Sandra Tillman of Kennebunk, and Susan Frederick Larsen and her husband, Lars, of Gorham; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Ann) Mitton, of South Portland; four grandchildren, George Tillman of Philadelphia, Brian Tillman of Kennebunk, Caleb Frederick of Sanford and Elliot Bidwell of Gorham; a brother-in-law, Peter Coyle of South Portland; and a sister-in-law, Anne Frederick of South Portland; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Christ Church, Dane Street, Kennebunk. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Laudholm Trust, P.O.
