VERONA ISLAND – Evelyn I. (Power) Newbegin, 85, joined hands once again with her late husband, Edgar, Feb. 2, 2006, at a Penobscot nursing facility. She was born May 8, 1920, in Medford, Mass., the daughter of Harold and Grace Power. Along with her husband, she owned the American Sailor Restaurant on Water Street in Castine from 1963-1966. She enjoyed boating, mackerel fishing and cross-country skiing. Evelyn is survived by three sons, Edgar S. Newbegin Jr. of Prospect, Richard M. Newbegin of Verona Island and Gary A. Newbegin and his wife, Dianne of Sedgewick; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar S. Newbegin Sr., Feb. 12, 2002. Private services will be held in the spring. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
