PRESQUE ISLE – Evelyn J. Clair, 74, died early Saturday morning Nov. 5, 2005, at her residence. She was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Clayton John and Marion (Ricker) Higgins. Evelyn was a very special mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved the outdoors; enjoyed hunting and fishing, working on the farm with her husband, George and taking care of her animals. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Malcolm Perkins, Kathy and Alan Roope, all of Presque Isle; two sisters, Irma Allen of Presque Isle and Sharon Lackey of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren Holly Tompkins, Seth Roope and Janelle Roope; a great-grandson, Avery Tompkins; two stepgranddaughters, Shannon Blake and Aimee Huotari; two step-grandsons, Tyler and Ethan Beauman; a great-stepgranddaughter, Gabielle Huotari. She was predeceased by her husband, George Clair, in 1995; a grandson, Sabin Roope; and a brother, Philip Higgins. A graveside memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle, with Pastor Larry Palmer officiating. Donations may be made in her memory to County Dialysis Center, 53 North St., Presque Isle, ME 04769 or to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, P.O. Box 1115, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
