CHARLOTTE – Evelyn M. Sanders, 59, died Monday evening, Dec. 13, 2004 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Charlotte, July 1, 1945, a daughter of Charles and Florence (Gower) Hatton. She attended Calais schools graduating from Calais Memorial High School in 1963. Mrs. Sanders had been a bookkeeper at Barnard’s Nursing Home which became Atlantic Rehab and Nursing Center, for more than 27 years. She was a member of the Charlotte Grange 253, Cathance Grange 510, 7th Degree member of the National Grange, Washington County Grange, and the Maine State Grange. She was a member of the Charlotte Baptist Church and attended the United Methodist Church of Calais. She enjoyed her family and friends and her work at the healthcare facility. She served as the tax collector of Charlotte for two years. She had also worked part-time at Wal-Mart in Calais. Surviving is her husband of 37 years, Floyd W. Sanders; two sons, Shawn Sanders of Philadelphia, Pa. and Stacy Sanders of Milford; a daughter, Mrs. Cory (Ann Marie) York of Charlotte; sister, Eleanor Hatton of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Dakota Charles York and Randa Lynn York, both of Charlotte. She was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Hatton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Pastor Lehlohonolo Henrietta Montjane will officiate. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20. Interment will be at the Round Pond Cemetery in Charlotte.
