BANGOR – Everett E. Palmer, 70, died Jan. 11, 2008, at his home. He was born July 8, 1937, in Bangor, the son of Lloyd C. and Gladys M. (Sherburne) Palmer. Everett graduated from Bangor High School, served in the Coast Guard and briefly attended the University of Maine. While in the Coast Guard he received a commendation for heroism when he swam under burning oil to rescue a man. Everett was a self-employed carpenter for many years in the Bangor area. He was a self-reliant hard working man with many hands-on talents. He could design, build or fix just about anything. He lived most of his life in Bangor and most of it in the family homestead on Broadway. Everett never married. He is survived by four sisters, Mary Kelliher of Bangor, Shirley Bryant of Dexter, Jayne Slonsky of Dixon, Ill., and Joyce Coombs of Otis; a brother, Gerald Palmer of Hermon; many nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and one special niece, Judy Jernigan of Winterport, who was very caring to Everett during his last years. Everett was predeceased by a sister, Ruth I. Stone of San Bernardino, Calif.; and two brothers, Earl Bradford Palmer of Readfield, who died as an infant, and Edward Lloyd Palmer of Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to call 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Outer Hammond Street, Bangor. Family and friends are invited to the Palmer home, 247 Klatte Road, Hermon, after the interment. Those who wish may make gifts in memory of Everett to the Gladys M. and Lloyd C.
