NORTHEAST HARBOR – Everett Horace Butler, 78, died Aug. 10, 2004, in Northeast Harbor. He was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Bar Harbor, the son of Leo and Clara (Liscomb) Butler. Everett served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and he loved to do word puzzles. He also enjoyed working at the Jackson Laboratory for 22 years and being with his friends. Everett was assistant Scout Master for many years. He was a former member and past commander of the American Legion of Southwest Harbor, a member of the American Legion Hancock Memorial Post No. 207 of Trenton. He is survived by his companion, Marilyn Peterson of Northeast Harbor; three step-daughters, Mary Smith and her husband, Leman, Grace Hubbard and her husband, Lee, all of Bar Harbor, and Jane Batchelor and husband, Tom, of Somerville, S.C.; one brother, Earl Butler; and one sister, Ada Louise Butler of Otter Creek; several step-grandchildren, great-grand-children, nieces and nephews. Everett was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Garland) Butler; and by two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Pauline Wescott. The family wants to thank all of Everett’s caregivers for all their help and kindness during his illness. Graveside memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor, with the Rev. William Bigelow officiating.
