WEST HARTFORD, Conn. Everett R. Whitney, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at Hebrew Home and Hos-pital. He was the husband of the late Mildred (Cort) Whitney. He was born in Hampden Islands, the son of the late Russell H. and Lillian (Gould) Whitney. He served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Whitney was a longtime resident of Bangor, prior to moving to the Hartford, Conn., area. He worked as a truck driver with Hannaford Brothers and Merrill Transport before taking a position as a heavy equipment operator with the Public Works Department of the city of Bangor. He retired in 1985. He is survived by his son, Richard Whitney and his wife, Lynn, of West Hartford, Conn.; his brother, Charles R. Whitney and his wife, Barbara; his sister, Mary Ellen Hunter; four grandsons, Richard Whitney Jr. and his wife, Kami, David Edwards and his wife, Dawn, Stephen Whitney, and Benjamin Whitney; three great-grandchildren, Kiley Rene? Whitney, Keenan Everett Whitney and Timothy Treacy; and his special great-niece, Danielle Brooks. Everett is also survived by many nieces and nephews across the country. He was predeceased by two sisters, Charlotte and Frances. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Hebrew Home and Hospital for all their loving care. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main St., West Hartford, Conn. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mr. Whitney will be interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 U.S. Hwy One, North Brunswick, NJ 08902-4301.
