ELLSWORTH – Ferne L. Cottle, 74, died peacefully April 24, 2006, at her residence. She was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Fred W. and Ruth E. (Moore) Lakin. Ferne worked many jobs including a clerk at the Ellsworth Courthouse, the Selected Service for many years, worked for the FHA and retired in 1994 as a secretary for the Maine Fish & Wildlife Service. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and her time spent at camp. She was always a caregiver for her family. She was a member of the Ellsworth Falls Congregational Church and the Eastern Star, Irene Chapter O.E.S. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert H. Cottle; daughter, Joan Smith; brother, Robert F. Lakin and wife, Maxine, all of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Robby Gordon and Jennifer Littlefield, both of Ellsworth; great-grandchildren, Julia and Parker Littlefield; and special friends, Elaine Frost and Mary Sprague. Calling hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 28, with the Rev. Emily Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery. Contributions in Ferne’s memory may be made to the Ellsworth Falls Congregational Church, P.O.
