MONROE and WINTERPORT – Florence E. Vanidestine, 84, passed away peacefully April 16, 2007, surrounded by her loving family at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. She was born March 29, 1923, in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of Edmund C. and Abby C. (Jones) Benson. After graduating from high school, Florence entered the Womans Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Pratt, Kan. After returning home, she married Adelbert E. Vanidestine Jr., and started their family. Florence worked for Travelers Insurance for many years. In her spare time, Florence enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and crafts of all kinds. Florence will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and the best friend to her daughters. Florence is survived by her two loving daughters, Sandra A. Vanidestine Robshaw of Winterport and Donna M. Vanidestine of Brewer; one brother, Charles Benson of Manchester, Conn.; grandchildren, April Mai Robshaw, Aaron Austin Robshaw, Michelle Lee Crochern, and John Earl Vanidestine; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Adelbert “Del” Vanidestine, in 2001; two sons, Adelbert Francis and Donald McKinley Vanidestine; one granddaughter, Kimberley Marie Vanidestine; and two sisters. A graveside service with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Harmony Place Cemetery, Monroe, with the Revs. Art and Suzie Gowie officiating.
