BELFAST – Mrs. Bastian, resident of Harbor House in Belfast, born Dec. 8, 1910, in Haverhill, Mass., passed away March 12, 2004, after an 11 year battle with Alzheimer’s. She and her late husband, Fredrick Bastian, were married Nov. 9, 1935, and lived in Massachusetts before moving to Belfast in 1947. They owned and operated the “Mooring Restaurant, Dairy Joy and Campground” until 1977. The restaurant and Dairy Joy became very popular with area residents and summer travelers. In the early years, Mrs. Bastian “Flo” worked in the off season at Palmer’s Stationary Store and the Merrill Trust Bank. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting the customers and cared very deeply for all the local summer staff, some of whom were employed at the restaurant through their high school and college years. She and her late husband enjoyed traveling and visiting their two grandsons in New Hampshire and in later years, their four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bastian is survived by her son, David Bastian and wife, Judy, of Concord, N.H.; two grandsons, Michael Bastian of Jacksonville, Fla., John Bastian and wife, Stacey, of Loudon, N.H.; three great-grandsons, Matthew, Alec and Griffin; and great-granddaughter, Cameron. She is greatly missed by her immediate family and friends and the Harbor House family who cared for her during the last years with great compassion. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Rackliffe Funeral Home, 54 Church St., Belfast. Arrangements by Rackliffe Funeral Home, Belfast. www.dignitymemorial.com.
