SUNSET – Forrest W. Greene, 51, died Oct. 24, 2007, at Blue Hill Hospital from liver disease. He was born April 14, 1956, in Alexandria Bay, N.Y., and grew up in New Vernon, N.J. By the time he was 16, he had begun his lifelong battle with alcohol and drug abuse, which dominated the rest of his life, and caused him a painful death. When he married Elizabeth Swanson and his children, Tyler, Zoe and Alana, were born, Forrest had some good years during which he stayed on top of the pull of his addictions. He became a licensed contractor in San Jose, Calif., ran a successful business and was a loving family man. Four years ago, after many misadventures, Forrest came to Deer Isle to live. Forrest would want others to learn from his mistakes, and not to try to win a substance abuse battle with denial and without the help of an AA or NA community. His thanks and his family’s go to his AA community, which he turned to, to support his sobriety, unfortunately too late. He is survived by his father, Roger W. Greene Sr. and his wife, Nancy Dobbs Greene, of Sunset; his mother, Carol Hay Greene of Sedona, Ariz.; his brother, Tracy S. Greene and his wife, Samantha Akland Greene, of Civitella del Largo, Italy; his sister, Kathryn E. Greene of Greenbrae, Calif.; his brother, Roger W. Greene Jr. and his wife, Susan Robison Greene, of Issaquah, Wash.; his half sister, Laurie Green of Jupiter Fla.; his former wife, Elizabeth Swanson Greene, and their children, Tyler, Zoe and Alana of San Jose, Calif.; many nieces, nephews and many friends, especially Patricia Arvidson. Forrest will be remembered as a loving father, a caring brother, a beloved son and a loyal friend. Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Sunset Congregational Church, Sunset, with the Rev. Alice Hildebrand officiating. A family service will be held in California at a later date.
