CAMDEN – Frances Knowlton Nash, 84, died Friday, March 19, 2004, at Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill in Camden. Born Feb. 7, 1920, in Camden, she was the daughter of Albert and Jennie Gray Knowlton. She was a 1938 graduate of Camden High School. On Nov. 4, 1939, she married Maurice E. Nash of Camden. They owned and operated Elmhurst Dairy in Camden for more than 24 years. In 1958, Frances began a 23-year nursing career working at the Camden Community Hospital until it closed. Mrs. Nash was the recipient of a Carnegie Medal for saving the life of a 9-year old boy who fell through the ice on the Megunticook River in February of 1943. Her special pride was her children and grandchildren and her love of her dogs. Frances spent many years volunteering at the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League. She enjoyed spending time with her family at their cottage on Megunticook Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Nash were lifelong members of the Scotty Camping Club and enjoyed their many trips with friends. Surviving are one son, Richard Nash and his wife, Peggy; one daughter, Linda Dabrio and her husband, Jack, all of Rockport; five grandchildren, Ginger Nippe of Rohnert Park, Calif., Richard Nash Jr. of Union; Candace Nash of Lawrence, Kan., Necole Dabrio Wall of Cushing, and Amanda E. Barnes of Warren; seven great-grandchildren, Casey Nippe, Kirk Nippe, Kade Nash, Derick Barnes, Allyson Barnes, Steven Carpenter and Nicholas Wall. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice Nash, who died in 1982; and her grandson, Gregory A. Dabrio, who died in 1991. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004, at the Robert E. Laite Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden, with the Rev. Linda Campbell Marshall officiating. Spring burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Camden.
