INDIAN ISLAND – Francis C. Nicola, 70, passed away unexpectedly Nov. 15, 2007. He was born Sept. 25, 1937, on Indian Island, the son of Ralph A. Nicola Sr. and Grace M. (Paul) Nicola. Francis graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Orono and went on to attend the University of Maine. He met his wife, Amelia, while working as an electrical engineer in New York, and together they raised their children in Connecticut, where his work had taken them. Francis enjoyed ham radio, music and his Native American culture. He played piano at church and for senior citizens on the island. Francis was a devout Catholic. He was also a friend of Bill W. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife. Francis is survived by his daughters, Gabrielle Guiterrez and her husband, Jose, and Celeste Schulke and her husband, Mark; sisters, Genevieve LaFrance and her husband, Joseph, Suzanne Kinney and Blanche Corbett and her husband, Howard; brother, Ralph A. Nicola Jr. and his wife, Patricia; several nieces and nephews, Elaine Lonko, Carol LaFrance, Eric and Terri Jean Greenan, Andrea LaCombe, Melanie Cox, Darcie Rowell, Howard Corbett Jr., Darren Paul and Chelsea Nicola; and dear cousins, Donna Chapman and Mary Byers. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Indian Island. Interment will be at Tribal Cemetery. A luncheon will be held after the services at the parish hall.
