EXETER, – Francis Eugene Paul, 47, of Exeter, Washington State, Pittsfield, and Dixville Notch, N.H., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 27, 2004, at his residence in Dixville Notch, N.H. Francis was born Jan. 7, 1957, in Madison, the son of the late Albert and Orissa (Bryant) Paul. Francis grew up in Exeter, where he made several friends and got his first paying job from neighbors, the Whitcombs, who became great friends. Francis saved every dollar to pay for shoes needed for his sisters for school, which made Francis proud to help out. The next job was at Eastland Woolen Mills in Corinna, where he worked for 12 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, receiving his honorable discharge in 1979. He was employed as a cook at the Harbor Caf‚ in Blaine, Wash., for 18 years, until moving back to Maine, where he lived in Pittsfield, for 12 months. He was employed as a line cook at the Balsams Grand Resort Hotel in Dixville, N.H., at the time of his death. Francis was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered by all who knew and loved him, including his many friends throughout the years of his life. Francis is survived by his brother, Eugene Bryant of Pittsfield; three sisters, Lynnette Paul of Orono, Barbara Downing of Exeter, Deborah Prescott of Levant; and uncle, Ernest E. Bryant of Pittsfield; two aunts, Minnie Kimball of Corinna, and Phyllis Archiprette of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and three nephews. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at a later date.
