HARTLAND – Fredrick B. Starkey, 86, died April 23, 2004, at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born March 11, 1918, at Houlton, a son of Amos and Dora (Stockford) Starkey. He served as a Tech. Sergeant mechanic in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War, retiring from the Air Force in 1964. He owned a pulp business from 1964 until 1976, and moved to Hartland in 1977 from Jackson. Fred was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association. He was predeceased by a brother, Edmund; and a sister, Florence Dowling. He is survived by a son, Thomas; a stepdaughter, Rose Kirby; two sisters, Phyllis Wallace and Myrtle Stanley; and a grand-daughter Melinda; three nieces, Dora Rexrode, Dr. Lois Symington and Sandra Stanley; three nephews, Eugene Stanley, Ranny Carey, and Gary Gosen. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland.
