EASTPORT – Gary Edward Mealey, 52, went home to be with our Lord, June 22, 2005. Gary was born March 8, 1953, in Eastport, the son of Robert and Margaret (Brackett) Mealey. Gary was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. His favorite time of year was July 4th celebration week in Eastport. He would be seen downtown from early morning until late evening throughout the entire week, (not wanting to miss a thing). His favorite holiday was Christmas. Gary would be so excited, that he couldn’t wait for morning, so he’d open all his presents on Christmas Eve. But, it was Christmas dinner, with his family that he would most look forward to. It would have to be roast turkey with all the fixings and lemon meringue pie for dessert, made by his sister-in-law, Terri, to really make Gary’s Christmas complete. Gary attended the Frank Beckett Center in Calais for many years and enjoyed his time there. Gary attended the Frank Beckett Center in Calais for many years and he enjoyed his time there. He made so many wonderful friends with both his peers and the staff. He most often would speak about “Jeannie”, (Jean Shirley), he thought a lot of her. Gary also had a special place in his heart for his best little buddy, Van Lord, and his parents, Sheila and Doug. He thought quite a lot of Amanda Perry and her mother, Susan, as well. They brought Gary a lot of happiness and he played a big roll in their lives when Van and Amanda were little. He made a lot of people laugh through the years. A good childhood friend of his, David Morang and his wife, Vicki, enjoyed a lot of laughs with Gary before his passing. Gary loved reminiscing about when they were kids. He also loved spending time with his good friend and pastor, Cody Stow. They enjoyed many hot sausage subs and doughboys together over the years during the 4th of July celebration in Eastport. Gary became very special to many in his church family as well. He will be greatly missed by all. Gary was one of seven children born to Robert and Margaret. He was predeceased by both parents, one brother, Joseph Mealey; and his nephew, Timothy Suddy. His sister, Jane (Mealey) Suddy and her husband, Buck, who lived with for many years, survive him. He is also survived by four loving brothers, Robert “Bob” Mealey and his special friend, Janie Silver, Richard Mealey and his wife, Linda, John Mealey and his wife, Theresa, and Greg Mealey, his youngest brother, many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005, at the Flagg Funeral Home, Eastport.
