PATTEN – Geneva (Hatt) Glidden, 95, died March 3, 2008, in Patten. She was born Nov. 10, 1912, in Snohomish, Wash., the daughter of Rueben and Annie (Anderson) Hatt. She attended Crystal schools and helped her husband on the farm working in the fields and in the barns. When in her 40s, she went to work at Augusta Mental Health Institute for approximately 24 years, taking riders to and from work with her, had as many as three boarders and helped her husband take care of 35 thousand birds. After her husband’s death, she sold their farm in Readfield and bought a home in Houlton in 1985. While in her 70s and 80s she took in boarders, raised a garden and had many flowers, which she shared with her neighbors. Her passions were her Lord Jesus, family, friends and flowers. She is survived by three daughters, Madelyn and her husband, Thurston Townsend, of Patten, Emmeline Walton of Monmouth and Florida, and Elaine and her husband, Arthur Witherall, of Winthrop and Florida; two sons, Wilbur A Glidden Jr. of Clearwater, Fla., and Emery and his wife, Janet Glidden, of Windsor; 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grand-children, four great-great-grand-children, many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dot Weston, Ann and Kathy Colter, Linwood Jamison, all of Houlton and Helen Palmer, Dean and Frances McKinney of Patten. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Wilbur A. Glidden; and two brothers, Clifford and Boynton Hatt. Her family deeply appreciates the loving care she received at Mountain Heights. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, Patten, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Tae Sung Kang officiating and her grandson Mark Townsend. Spring interment will be at Crystal Cemetery.
