BELFAST – George A. Rankin, 78, died Jan. 24, 2006, at a local nursing home. He was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Searsport, the son of Herbert and Florence (Paige) Rankin. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. George worked for C.A. Paul & Son and then was a machinist for P. B. Hustus. He then spent more than 50 years working for the City of Belfast in the highway department and the water district until his retirement. He remained active helping others with their vehicles and continued to be a resource for the city. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elene K. Rankin of Belfast; a sister, Mary Rankin of Connecticut; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Private spring interment will be at the Grove Cemetery.
