BREWER – George H. Katen, 67, died peacefully Nov. 25, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 28, 1938, in Hampden, the son of Charles and Ella (Best) Katen. He attended Bangor High School and then worked at Eastern Fine Paper in Brewer for 45 years. George loved all sports, fishing, hunting and especially going on fishing trips with his best friend, John Lewia and his wife, Sheila, who he thought of like a brother and loved him so much. He will always be remembered as a man with a kind heart, willing to give a helping hand; an honest, caring gentleman. George was so pleased and proud to be working and involved with the Food and Medicine at the Union Hall in South Brewer. Joe, David, Gloria, and Kevin- he loved them as if they were his own children as he helped raise them since they were young, and they thought of him as a second dad. Bob and Phil Jordan were his boys in his eyes also. He loved them all so much and was so proud of them. George is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elaine (Jordan) Katen of Brewer; brother-in-law, Howard Shaw of Brewer; sister-in-law, Gloria Shaw of Millinocket; Joe Jordan and his wife, Cathy, of Clifton, David Jordan and his wife, Kelly, of Holden, Janice and Mel Hebert of Nashua, N.H., Bob Jordan and his wife, Melissa, Phil Jordan, Kevin Gallant; three sisters, Peg Smith Groves, Maxine Braley, Ester and her husband, Dennis Trask; sister-in-law, Alice Katen; brother-in-law, Rodney Dubay; and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte Dubay; and two brothers, Raymond and Charles Katen. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held noon Tuesday, Nov. 29, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson, Chaplain of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
