FORT KENT – Gerald Dean Kelley, 93, passed away May 10, 2007, at a Fort Kent health care facility. He was born March 13, 1914, in St. Francis, the son of Charles and Stella (Sirois) Kelley. He was a 1932 Fort Kent High School graduate. He then joined the CCC’s and was stationed near Calais. He worked in Partnership with G.C. Hartt for 20 years in a general store and drove a Store on Wheels from St. John to Allagash. He then owned his own grocery store, I.G.A., in St. Francis, for 25 years. During that time he worked as a clerk two and one half years for Bath Iron Works. Gerald so loved his family and was a true example of the most caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grand-father. His talent for story telling was greatly admired by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nora (Sturgeon) Kelley of St. Francis; two daughters, Sandra Kelley of Bath and Jen Kelley of Fort Kent; five grandchildren, Mike and Chris Lyng, Jill Tisdale and husband, Steve, Kristen Leclerc and husband, Pat, and Deirdre Audibert and husband, Cliff; two great-grandchildren, Jared Kirchner and Alex Leclerc; three brothers, Roger of Massachusetts, James of Connecticut and Paul of Fort Kent; and one sister, Jean Farrel of New York. ” Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.” In addition to both parents, he was predeceased by six brothers, four sisters; also a special son-in-law, Bob Martin. Friends are invited for graveside prayers 3 p.m. Monday, May 14, at St. John Protestant Cemetery, St. John, with the pastor John Dik officiating. In Gerald’s memory, those who wish may donate to the St. Francis Historical Society, care of Gene Perreault, Main Street, St. Francis, ME 04774 or to a charity of choice.
