GERALD E. WHEELER SR. HARTLAND – Gerald E. Wheeler Sr., 84, died unexpectedly, Monday, July 7, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. Gerald was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Hartland, the son of Harold and Mabel (Wood) Wheeler. He attended Hartland Academy and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart from the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed by the cannery in Hartland, the woolen mill in Corinna and retired from the tannery in Hartland. He also was a clerk for Keith Tapley. Gerald was an active member of United Methodist Church, Corinna. Gerald loved all sports, especially the Boston Red Sox. He coached Little League while his son was young and then umpired for many years. He enjoyed bowling and was on a league until this past spring. He gave of himself and his resources to all in his family, for they were his life. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Freda M. (Parker) Wheeler; his daughter, Wanda Eastman and husband, Arthur; his son, Gerald Wheeler Jr. and wife, Eileen; his grandchildren, Troy Lary, Tammy Ngo and husband, Dale, Jessica Sinclair, Ryan Wheeler, Justin and Amina Wheeler, and Kyle Wheeler; his great-grandchildren, Dylan Sinclair, Justin and Ashley Lary, and Jasmine and Alexander Ngo; his sisters, Virginia Martin and husband, Seldon, Pauline Jewell and husband, Folsom, Ethelyn Parker and husband, Henry, and Romona Ross and husband, Roger; his sisters-in-law, Madeline Hollister, Iona Knight, Pauline Coolen and Sarah Humphrey; his brothers-in-law, Ulysses Parker and wife, Ginny, and Earle Jewell; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Maynard Wheeler and Linwood Wheeler; his sister, Agnes Wheeler; his sisters-in-law, Arline Jewell and Kathleen Brooks; his brothers-in-law, Archie Parker, John Parker, Elbridge Parker, Howard Parker and Wallace Parker. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at United Methodist Church, 16 Dexter Road, Corinna, with the Rev. Sharon Lovejoy and the Rev. Bruce Hudson officiating.
